KORČULA
Korcula is the island of beautiful coves, caves and Mediterranean palaces.
The mystic past of Korcula island reflects through picturesque small towns. Korcula Town, also known as the birthplace of Marco Polo – the world’s most famous traveler and sailor, is the capital town of the island, with a population of about 3000 inhabitants.
The fishbone pattern of medieval streets stretches along the peninsula, surrounded by eight preserved towers. The fishbone shape was used in Korcula Old Town to reduce the effect of wind and sun and to provide its citizens a sheltered and comfortable accommodation.
The historic town of Korčula is on UNESCO tentative list.

- Marko Polo’s alleged birth house is worth visiting. Despite its rather featureless interior, the house tower (loggia) offers a panoramic view of Korcula, stretching from the east to the west.
